What is There to Do in Exeter

Unique Gifts and Things To Do in Exeter

Situated at the mouth of the River Exe, on the South Devonshire coastline, is the ancient city of Exeter. Full of cosmopolitan character, incredible architecture, and entrepreneurial locals, this wonderful coastal city celebrates the best of the old and the new, in one neat package!

Dating back as far as the Roman Era, Exeter is a city rich with history and heritage, and first time visitors will truly be bowled over by the array of tourist attractions and places of interest. Of course, no trip to Exeter would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Cathedral – here you’ll have the chance to explore one of the UK’s finest and oldest examples of Gothic architecture, and uncover the treasures held within. Guided tours of the Cathedral’s art, engineering, memorials, and music are open to both worshippers and tourists alike, making this one of the most beloved and visited places in the West Country.

A mere stone’s throw from Exeter Cathedral is the celebrated Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (affectionately known as RAMM). Playing host to 16 permanent galleries and displays, as well as ever-changing special exhibitions, this fantastic building is so much more than just a museum and is great for adults and kids alike. You’ll embark on a voyage of discovery, as you journey from pre-history to the modern day, exploring a world-class collection of artefacts and natural history exhibits, and will have the chance to get hands on with some exciting activities.

Being the capital city of Devon, Exeter is brimming with stylish vintage boutiques, independent craft stores, and high street fashion labels, so a spot of shopping really is a ‘must’! You’ll find all the usual popular high street stores at the modern Princesshay Mall in the city centre, whilst quirkier trinkets and curiosities can be found at Gandy Street or the redeveloped Historic Quayside. Here you’ll also find a fine selection Pubs, Cafes, and Eateries where you can put your feet up and enjoy the spectacular river-side views. Once you’re feeling recharged, why not hire out a bike, canoe, or kayak for an outdoor adventure along the gentle waters of the River Exe?

For visitors seeking something a little different to the usual tourist hotspots, Exeter has a variety of activities for you to take part in. Foodies can get hands on with a Cookery Class at a state-of-the-art Culinary School in the Historic Quayside area, whilst those looking for an adrenaline rush can head slightly further afield for a thrilling Supercar Track Day. If you’re looking for a truly unique experience day, then head to the skies for a Helicopter Sightseeing Tour along the breath-taking Jurassic Coast, or a Hot Air Balloon Flight over the beautiful Devonshire countryside.

So, whether you are visiting Exeter for a romantic weekend away with a loved one, are looking for fun days out for the family, or are simply seeking the perfect activity experience gift for a special occasion, Exeter has the answer. The unique blend of ancient history and vibrant modern culture gives Exeter it’s unique character, and makes it one of the UK’s favourite destination cities.

Reception friendly and efficient (and attractive !) . Warm, cosy feeling with cafe-excellent facility . Briefing to the point not jargony and with good sense of humour -got people relaxed . Andi McCann , instructor, was brilliant . Patient ,good advice ,encouraged pace with smoothness .How does he sit there when people (like me) are getting it so wrong? However his advice and help meant improved driving thorugh day- messy in the Ferrari but getting smoother with better lines in the Audi R8. Also when got held up by a slower car and had to follow it through some of the bends and lost all momentum he let me go for another lap . He was brilliant. Pass my thanks to him .

I actually had this experience at Prestwold Driving Centre, Loughborough, because Elvington could not provide the car(s) I wanted to drive. On the day the centre was very busy and the weather abysmal, pouring with rain.Nevertheless, the staff, and the instructors, did a brilliant job, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The only downside was the lack of shelter when waiting for the drives, and the pressure for space in what cover there was, such as the restaurant. However I appreciate that conditions were especially bad on that day.
