INDIAN THEMED THAMES RIVER CRUISE- CITY CRUISES
On Wednesday the 25th of March, Megan and I set sail aboard City Cruises boat. The evening was Indian themed and was a teaser of a new river cruise that is due to be released in the next couple of months! If you truly want to spice up a venture to London, then this cruise is ideal for you.
The exclusive cruise began at 7.45pm when we departed from Westminster Pier. The pier is conveniently located right next to Westminster station so is very easy to get to.
We were warmly welcomed on board by smartly dressed waiters, greeting us with a complimentary glass of ‘bubbly’! Embraced by things Bollywood, including a live sitar player (which neither of us had seen before!), we were led to our seats. The main dining room had an elegant décor which was spacious yet comfortable, with tables lined up to a capacity of 180 people. Thanks to the warm, sheltered area of the lower deck, (despite most boat experiences being weather dependent), the cruise is very reliable and will regularly depart come rain or shine!
We were truly spoilt for choice by the huge buffet platter that was presented before us. The Indian cuisine was absolutely delicious and there was plenty to go around, as we both filled up our plates and stomachs! (see picture) The food was perfectly complimented by our house fresh crispy white wine.
Advancing to the upper deck – the evening was cool and warm, with a slight breeze that was a refreshing change from the lower deck- we were introduced to a panoramic view of London. The boat travels from the western end of Westminster Pier through to the Eastern end of Greenwich Pier and glides past London’s famous skyline. Sites that are witnessed along the journey include grand landmarks such as: the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the Millennium Bridge, the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe, the Tate Modern, the Golden Hinde, London Bridge, HMS Belfast, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
As we walked downstairs, the cruise came alive with a live singer who provided the on-board entertainment of traditional Indian music, for the rest of the evening. The service on board was outstanding; the staff were very attentive throughout the evening. The drinks bar, accompanied with the live music created a social and festive atmosphere, with a few customers feeling the full Bollywood effect and grabbing a partner to dance the night away!
The ticket price is set to include a welcome drink, all you can eat style Indian buffet, tea and coffee and half a bottle of wine per person! (price tbc)
This cruise was 3 hours long and encompassed the true enchantment that London has to offer regardless of whether you are local or a tourist. The open-air deck and panoramic windows of the vessel effortlessly display the best sites of London, this experience is ideal for friends, families and loved ones.
