Really enjoyed this tour. Plenty of room in the van for our family of 4. Mike was a great tour guide and provided us with information along the tour we would have never received anywhere else. We packed a lot of sites into the day but Mike was also flexible when there was a site we really had no interest in seeing. When we come back in the future we will definitely be doing this tour again with him.

This was a WONDERFUL day with Johnnie. We saw so many fantastic sites. His knowledge and explanations about what we were seeing and the historical significance made it that much more special. I HIGHLY recommend this tour.

This it the perfect full day tour from Inverness! Our guide "IQBAL" was excellent. We did this as a private group tour for the four of us. He was very flexible to our needs. For example, we are not Scotch drinkers so he suggested a Gin tasting instead. We wanted to see some Harry Coos and he took us to see some. The list of sites on this tour perfectly met our wish list of things to see. We would not have been able to do half as much if we tried to do this on our own. Would highly recommend this tour and tourguide.

We had a great time with Roy. Booked a private trip of 4 people but ended up with just 2 of us. So it felt like our own car and guide. Roy showed us all the various spots including a less viewed side of Loch Ness. He stopped wherever we wanted to, for pictures. He was reasonably knowledgeable about the various places we saw. But, more importantly the tour covered lots of history and geography of Inverness neighborhoods. Good way to spend a day.

We had an outstanding all day tour of Inverness with Johnny. He met us at the port and since we got in early, he was willing to start our tour a half hour earlier so we could see more. He utilized time to the max and we saw everything promised and more. Since he took side roads, we actually were able to go right to the start of Loch Ness. At each place he volunteered to take our pictures and even framed shots at murals in town. When we went for a tasting at Singleton Distillery, he showed the guys how to correctly taste whisky and how to warm it up with their hands. Johnnie was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and willing to accommodate our wishes. I would totally recommend this tour on Viator. It was the best!!!

An absolutely wonderful day. Gene was a fantastic tour guide. Very knowledgeable about everything from culture, to history, Outlander (which we did not plan but were super happy about), politics both past and present. He was a such a joy to spend the day with. He picked up us from our flat and then took us to a local grocery store that had free parking for our rental car. He was so kind. He made extra stops along the way based on our conversations and interests. His knowledge is endless. He was so conversational. He gave us shortbread and tea cakes to taste. We had such a great time. Would love to tour with Gene again.

Johnny was great! He was so knowledgeable, genuine, and he shared good stories about the area that only a true resident would know. We never had any problems getting in and out of places because he has a good relationship with people at every place you enter. He knew the best places to park to see certain landmarks that tour groups weren’t around. We had a mobility challenged person with us, and Johnny was very accommodating. He parked as close as he could to attractions and allowed the person to hold onto his arm for stability. I would tell anyone coming to this area that this adventure was well worth the money. Thank you, Johnny!

From beginning to end our tour with Mike from Historic & Scenic Tours, Inverness, was a fantastic experience. We began at Culloden on a beautiful day and walked leisurely while Mike filled us in on the history of the battle. We could choose to visit the museum there, but we declined. Next we went to Clava Cairns and soaked in the beauty of the ancient stones and the surrounding trees and fields. October is a perfect time to visit Scotland. Cawdor Castle was already closed for the season, so we went to Fort George instead. Next we made a stop at the Singleton Distillery where a flight of three whiskies introduced us to the Singleton brand. It was a gleaming facility with a knowledgeable and friendly bartender. A stop in Beauly gave us a chance to walk the grounds of the Beauly Priory, founded in 1230, and then to pick up a takeaway sandwich from Corner on the Square which was delicious. Mike provided a bottle of water, chips/crisps, a banana, and snack bars in his van. It was a comfortable ride and he drove with caution. Urquhart Castle was next. Inside we enjoyed a brief video about the history of the castle before making our way down to the ruins which are next to Loch Ness. Many visitors explore the castle in its gorgeous setting. Mike drove us back to Inverness, taking us around the city and pausing for a chance to get a look at St. Andrew's Cathedral. After nine hours of touring we were dropped back at our car. The entire day was well-paced and Mike was a friendly and gracious guide, full of knowledge and pleasant conversation. Highly recommended!

We’ve done different types of tours but not done a private tour before. We thoroughly enjoyed this one and how we were even able to customize it along the way. Our tour guide was Johnnie, and his knowledge of the area and Scottish history was impressive. My husband and I came to Scotland 20 years ago, which included a stay in Inverness and some of the sites. We brought our (older) teenagers for this trip, and all of us had a great time. We covered Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns, Cawdor Castle plus all the area between. There’s no way we could have covered all of this on our own plus learned the background. Highly recommend this tour! Thanks for a great day!

My husband and I booked a one day shore excursion tour from Invergordon. Our guide, Jamie , from Spirit Journeys picked us up at the cruise port gates and whisked us off for a wonderful day visiting several Highland sites : the Culloden Battlefield, the Clava Cairns and Cawdor Castle, which was exquisite. It was only us, so it was like a private tour that he customized for us and even added several extra stops such as Inverness itself, Fort George, the Culloden Viaduct, as well as a drive along Loch Ness, and through Beauly. It was the most fantastic tour, and Jamie avoided the big tour bus groups, and pointed us to the best things at each site, so that we used the time well and saw lots. Jamie was very friendly, knowledgeable, and adjusted the time at each site to suit us, and then delivered us back to our cruise ship on time. It was the best excursion of our whole cruise. Thank you, Jamie, your were the best guide ever!

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my tour guide Jim and our day venturing to some highland highlights. I had felt very overwhelmed planning my first solo international trip but Jim made me feel like I was spending the day with a good friend - helping me edit down my plans so I could truly take time to enjoy each site and just overall allowing me to explore whereever my silly whims wanted to take me in the moment. Jim was also a great sport taking as many pictures as my little heart desired. Aside from what I was expecting, we also found some highland coos, I physically got to dip my feet into Loch Ness, and was introduced to some excellent Scottish music (I believe it was Runrig). Jim gave excellent history lessons and personal stories; his passion for this job is quite palpable and there’s no question you’ll have an amazing day exploring with him!

He was knowledgeable, kind and courteous throughout our trip, always communicating timelines and giving us options on the sites we were visiting. I can’t recommend him enough. Johnnie was AMAZING! He picked us up at the port and spent all day with us, getting us back to the ship just before it left (exactly the way we wanted it, we wanted to spend as much time in Inverness as we could). He customized our trip to go anywhere we wanted, even back roads where we could get pictures of things that mattered to us. I mentioned I loved sheep and took pictures of some in the distance - he veered off to a neighboring farm and I found myself just on the other side of the fence of some. I’m a huge Outlanders fan, so he made sure to show us the Frazier castle. He was so knowledgeable about history & culture, and we learned so much from him. He was also a great photographer and took pictures of our family wherever we wanted. He had maps of the country, the crests, and even the plaids for each clan. I wanted to see the ruins of Urquhart castle but I was nervous of my physical ability to because I’ve had a hip replacement and I didn’t think I could be fast enough with the steep slope to get down there and back since it was our last stop. He talked me into it and got me a scooter so I could ride down & back. He was so kind! This was our favorite tour by far!! I don’t think we’ll ever book another excursion through a cruise line again…a private tour is the ONLY way to go! We cannot recommend this enough! DO IT!!! You will NOT regret it!

First of all, viator kept in touch as the payment date approached. Felt very comfortable about booking. Actual tour company did as well. Our guide Lewis was superb. Decked out in proper kilt, he was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and helpful. We put ourselves in his hands, and saw everything we had planned and then some. Do not miss Cawdwer Castle and plan for a wonderful lunch in the Cafe with everything homemade. We would use Viator again. More than worth the money for a private tour for four in a comfortable van.

Jack was by far the very best tour guide we have ever had. By this I mean all the trips we’ve had since touring through Viator Jack clearly lead the field. Starting with the countryside to so many things of interest we literally went from adventure to adventure. Jack is the type of guide you can ask any question and he’s ready to thoroughly answer your questions. From local stories to battlefield tactics, historical facts. Even sat with him drinking a cup of coffee waiting for the girls at one of the castles. Met Jacks friend George who was also a truly nice guy to banter with. We finished our tour with a visit to a distillery where Jack taught us the correct way to enjoy Whisky. Jack gave us our greatest tour experience of our cruise. If anything he may have ruined all the other tours by making this one so memorable.

Having never visited this area before, we were not sure what to aim to see other than the well-know Loch Ness. Although we did visit Loch Ness, we saw so much more of the area than we would have been able to mange on our own, even if we had a car. We spent the day with Johnny who was knowledgeable and taught us so much about the history and background of each of our many stops. Johnny was flexible in allowing us to spend as much or as little time at each location according to our interests, something that would not be possible on a group tour. After our trip, the family talked about what stood out for each of us; each of us had different high points among the places we visited, but all of us had a very enjoyable time and were enthusiastic about the entire experience. I would definitely recommend this tour to visitors to this area.

Very comprehensive visit to the area. It was nice to see more than just the usual tourists locations. The trip was customized as we traveled to maximize the visit. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and very personable. I actually felt a little sorry for those on larger tours who were being driven like cattle with little direct interaction. Our guide even knew how to make special arrangements at various sites for a family member with ambulation difficulties. It was a great experience.

Bobby went the extra mile to give us a good experience. Change up route maybe since we came from Nairn. Castle first then other venues. Thx!

One of the best private car tours we have had. Alan was amazing!!! Very friendly and toured the itinerary to our interests. Our daughter hurt her leg (tripped) and Alan made sure she was well taken care of. He helped support her as she walked throughout the excursions. He made sure she was happy. For example, our daughter rides horses. Alan heard us talking about it and wanted to make her smile. He drove us to a Clydesdale horse farm and our daughter met multiple horses and just beamed. Then, at Culloden, our daughter was unable to walk the field. Alan went and bought her a book at the gift store (with his own money) so she could have something to do while the rest of us visited the field. Then, Alan heard that our daughter was looking for some rare tartan. Alan found us a store that had the tartan again making her day. Alan and this tour company went above and beyond!!! Highly recommend them and their team. Serious Kudos to Alan for making it a special day despite the fall and for going with the flow. Awesome guy!!!
