These themed assault courses are designed to push people to their limits, facing extreme physical and mental challenges, to prove their own inner strength and experience the ultimate levels of adrenaline. mudder fire-in-your-hole-365x301It may seem obvious by now (given that most of us have already taken part in a past event), but no extreme blog post or article would be complete without referring to the ‘Mudder’ of all challenges…Tough Mudder. And this year is set to be one of the biggest, yet! Pledging itself as “more than a fitness challenge”, this obstacle course focuses on the camaraderie of completing the exhilarating challenge as a team – helping each other along, as you slog your way through waist deep mud and over a whole manner of hurdles. With over 50 events worldwide in 2015 – a large number of which are held here in the UK – there’s sure to be an event coming to a field near you.

If you’re already a Tough Mudder finisher and are looking for the next exciting challenge, then there are a whole host of events across the country for you to pit yourself against.

Spartan_Hero_UK_Yorkshire-240x240Originating in the hilly terrain of Vermont (USA) Spartan Race was created to bring the excitement of the obstacle race to anyone…both participants and spectators. X-runner defines itself as being more than your average obstacle course – labelling itself as an ‘adult playground’. X-Runner prides itself on its range of trials and mud runs. With various events being held throughout the year, you can choose just how hard you’d like to push yourself…can you battle the elements as well as the course? If you fancy signing up for some water slides, tightropes, and tunnels with the ‘Water Wipeout’ event in June, then you’d better be quick as spaces are selling out fast!

warriorcrawl_800x600With 6 events being held throughout the summer months, and all-new extreme obstacles, this year’s Total Warrior is looking to be one of the hottest tests of stamina and determination of the season. For some people, the aim will be to complete the course faster than their comrades, others will want to lose weight or prove their strength, but for most, ‘winning’ come in the form of completing the course, crossing the finish line, and downing that all-important FREE beer! You’ll want a change of clothes – prepare to get muddy!

trenchesWith plenty of mud, water and even FIRE, Back 2 The Trenches is a military-style obstacle course designed to test not only physical abilities, but also the camaraderie between the teams involved. With events of varying length starting in May 2015, you can tackle both man-made and natural obstacles, including hill climbs, barbed wire crawls and sandbag carries, as well as getting caked in mud! Are you tough enough to take it on?

With so many events running across the UK, throughout the summer months, you’re sure to find a challenge to suit…go on, get out there and take on the world!
