POLOWOOD SHOOTING GROUND: EXPERT INTERVIEW
To welcome Polowood Shooting Ground as one of our newest suppliers, we took a visit to the grounds, met the team, and tried some of the amazing activities they have on offer. As well as this, we took the time to find out a little more about the company and Gary provided us with some fantastic stories and experiences. To find out more, continue reading...
When did the Polowood Shooting Ground begin, and how did it come about?
The first time I ever went shooting it was with my father in law, shortly after I had met my soon-to-be wife. Once I had my first shot I was hooked. From this point on, I regularly went shooting with him and joined many of the shooting groups which he was a member of.
With this passion for shooting, I visited many local grounds, and ten years ago I went to Polowood for the first time. When the owner advised he was selling the ground, I knew I had to have it. Polowood started out as shooting only, but over the following ten years and with a great team behind me, we have built this into the activity centre it is today.
Which activities are offered at the Polowood Shooting Ground?
Our main activity is the clay shooting, but once this was established we branched out and started to offer air rifle shooting experience, which then led to us introducing archery and axe throwing.
You have such a great variety of experiences, however what does a typical ‘Mixed Shooting Experience’ entail?
A mixed shooting experience is such a good way to try a variety of different activities, especially for groups as you always find that each person leaves with a different favourite experience.
What are your top tips for a beginner shooter, or anyone who might be apprehensive about trying shooting?
The instructors we have onsite are all people I have met through their love of shooting, and all have a big passion for sharing the sport. With the years of shooting experience they have behind them, it always helps our guests ease their nerves if it is their first time shooting a gun. Our top tips would be to relax, get used to the gun and enjoy the experience!
How long would it roughly take to get the perfect aim?
For some people, the sport comes naturally, whereas others really have to work on their shot and need more instruction. As long as you have a passion for the sport then you can always improve your skill.
What makes you different from other target/shooting experiences?
I would say the passion we have for sharing the activities and sport. We want every guests who visits us to go away with a positive and fun experience.
What is your personal favourite form of target practice?
I most enjoy the clay shooting. I have been shooting now for 35 years, still visit shooting grounds, and am a member of gun clubs.
