Food and Drink Experience Days: This laid-back two-hour tasting session is your chance to sample a variety of premium rums while learning all about the spirit’s history and production. Join a knowledgeable rum specialist for an evening of quality drinks and spirited conversation.

The experience is organised by one of the country’s premier wine and liquor tasting schools. On arrival, you’ll be greeted by their very own rum expert, who’ll begin by tracing the spirit’s history from its Caribbean origins to the present day. You’ll discover what made rum the tipple of choice for pirates and Royal Navy seamen, before discussing the different kinds available today. Over the course of the evening, you’ll get to sample five premium rums, including dark, gold and light varieties. Your guide will describe how three basic ingredients—sugar cane/molasses, water and yeast—are fermented, distilled and aged to produce a wide variety of colours, strengths and flavours. By the time the session concludes, you’ll know what signs of quality to look out for when purchasing rum yourself—handy if you’ve a newfound taste for it!
