SCOTLAND'S CANYONS: EXPERT INTERVIEW
Canyoning is an unforgettable way to feel at one with nature and test your limits as you navigate through various uneven terrains! Scotland's Canyons provide the chance to experience pure thrills whilst navigating hidden canyons and we've asked them a few questions to gain a further insight!
For those who aren’t familiar with canyoning, would you be able to describe what this adventurous activity entails?
Canyoning is a fun way to explore incredible natural spaces where few have been before. With the right combination of rock, water and gravity over millennia canyons are formed. The unique rock formations are often stunningly beautiful, and with the right gradient form majestic waterfalls and deep pools where canyoners have their fun. Scotland’s ancient glens are full of amazing canyons to explore by abseiling, sliding and jumping down waterfalls and scrambling and swimming through the pools. It’s exhilarating and lots of fun!
From your perspective, what was the inspiration behind wanting to provide customers with a unique way to experience canyoning?
Canyoning makes true adventure accessible to everyone. Having had so much fun and found so much inspiration canyoning all over the world, now we have come home to help our guests discover Scotland’s canyons. By teaching the skills in a fun way we open a door to adventure that allows our guests to have just as much fun as we do.
When compared to your competitors, what makes your brand so unique?
Most importantly we treat our guests as individuals who are on their own personal adventure. Each adventure is unique to the individual and every trip makes new discoveries. By only working with experienced professionals with a passion for what they do, we can run each trip in a manner that is tailor-made to suit our guests.
Hosting your canyoning experiences must be so fun, what’s the best part?
Yeah, it is lots of fun! Canyons are dynamic environments that change with the weather and the seasons; with so many canyons to explore, Scotland is a special location to do it. The biggest thing that changes from day to day is the people we guide. Everyone finds something different in the canyon. Some find an inner strength from overcoming their fears, some discovering a new way to have fun in a natural playground, some satisfy curiosity in the thrill of the decent and some enjoy solving the technical problems that the canyons present. The absolute best part about guiding is helping our guests to make these discoveries, whatever they might be.
What is your vision for the future of Scotland’s Canyons?
Lots of happy guests and guides. Our vision is simple, we want to support those who have a passion for what they do to make a good living by being good at it. This means providing every one of our guests with a unique experience. Some will be inspired to explore more canyons with us, some will take away life long memories to treasure, and we hope that every one of them has loads of fun!
On a typical experience, what can a customer expect within a visit?
We run our trips with small numbers of participants which means our guests will have maximum personal attention from the guides. We also provide the best quality, specifically designed canyoning socks, shoes, harnesses, helmets, and thick wetsuits with a hood. Every trip starts with a welcome meeting and a chance to make sure the gear is fitted properly and once kitted out a practice of the skills before descending the canyon. Every canyon decent is unique but they all involve getting wet - either by abseiling inside waterfalls, jumping into deep pools or sliding down smooth rocks. Our guides give their guests the choice of action where possible and are careful to describe clearly the challenges ahead. We are always ready to listen because we want our guests to make the most out of their adventure and enjoy it for all the right reasons. We end each day with some home baking, snacks and drinks and a chance to share the photos and video.
