The Online Cooking Class was an experience that aided in my culinary journey and taught me how to make a scrumptious meal from scratch.

Surprisingly, this was the first cooking class that I’d ever taken part in. I’m not the best cook, so I knew it was long overdue! Besides my nerves for trying something new, I was excited to be able to add a new meal idea to my dinner plans. Understanding and having the ability to make a meal from scratch is also something that I’ve always wanted to be able to do. I can assure you that this experience is sure to leave you with a reimagined love for cooking!

Before we delved into the online cooking class itself, we had to ensure that we were prepared. Anna, our instructor, was kind enough to send us an equipment/ingredients list prior to the commencement of our lesson. Caly and I spent some time looking over the list to see what we already owned and what we needed to purchase. The next stop was our local supermarket to gather everything we were missing!

The format of the list was easy to follow, and we ran into little trouble locating everything we required. You can choose to cook either a katsu chicken curry or a butter chicken curry for the class. Opting for the butter chicken curry was our final decision as it was something that we both wanted to know how to make in the future. The ingredients list for this meal didn’t include many exotic ingredients.

To reiterate what our final product was going to be, it was a butter chicken curry with homemade curry paste, basmati rice and homemade naan. As this was an online class, we had to connect with Anna via Zoom. This was an easy process, with an invitation link being sent out the day before the class was due to begin. As soon as we followed the link, we were promptly greeted by Anna, who made us feel very welcome.

It was nice knowing that this class was welcome to those with varied cooking abilities, from beginners (which was me) to experts (which was not me.) Anna started off the online meat cooking class by telling us a little about herself, then outlining the method of how to prepare and cook our food. It was exciting to get to grips with the preparation of what was shaping up to be a yummy meal!

Now for the actual cooking, we had all our ingredients laid out and ready for use. To begin, we combined all our spices to create our own Kashmiri garam masala. Along with some double cream, we blended our Kashmiri garam masala together with vegetables to create the curry paste.

It was then time to fry the chicken. Cooking chicken is something I’ve always been wary of since I could very easily under or over cook the meat. However, with the assistance of Anna, I was able to show her the frying pan so she could double check to make sure what I was using was thoroughly cooked. Once the chicken was ready for consumption, we poured the curry paste on top.

We then had to leave the curry paste to simmer while we prepared the rice and naan. Before we knew, time was up, and we poured the masterpiece on to our plates – topped with some herbs! I can tell you that it was one of the best meals I’ve had – fact!

The Online Cooking Class is an experience perfect for those looking to improve their cooking skills, or somebody looking to try out something new from home.
