Owen, Bissy and I visited Escape the Vault, located in Presuming Ed’s Coffee House in Brighton. The very colourful building was hard to miss! As we walked into the café, we were greeted by our escape room guide who told us the steps we needed to take before entering. This included saving a phone number into one of our phones; the contact being known as ‘Terrance,’ who was our mysterious getaway driver that we could message throughout our experience for any help. We were sent a video by Terrance on the phone, and were told to watch it just before entering the escape room. Once we had finished the first steps, our guide took us towards the escape room, hidden at the back of the café down a narrow alley, which perfectly fit the vibe of the escape the cell theme. The room in which we had to escape was a mysterious box shape with a small amount of light, but enough for us to see what we were doing. After having a brief talk from our guide about the task we had to complete, it was time to get started and watch the video!
Terrance stayed alongside us in our heist on WhatsApp, ready to give any clues we needed if we felt stuck on a task. We were mostly alright, but there were a couple of times we had to ask for his help! Thankfully, his clues did not ruin the experience; there was still an element of mystery to the information he gave us, but just enough clarity to piece together what we already knew. This Escape Room was unlike any other I’ve ever tried before, as we had to actually break into the room (i.e., 'the 'Vault') first to access the safe! As you enter, the timer begins and you are faced with several puzzling objects and clues that all interlink and will lead you to the locked safe stacked with the ‘money’. You have to give your full attention to each object in the ‘vault’ as no clue is blatantly obvious! If you need any extra help, there is a security camera you can give a little wave to where a member from the friendly team will provide you with some extra help. Although it is challenging, it is also possible as we finished ours with just 5 seconds left to spare!
