So, couples. Where do we begin? Well, if you’re reading this article, chances are you’re looking for one of two things—a gift for a couple OR a gift for your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/partner/lover/it’s complicated (delete as appropriate) that the two of you can enjoy together. Happily, whichever it is, Activity Gifts has the answers!
Yes, whether you’re losing sleep over bae’s Christmas prezzie or tearing your hair out over Mum & Dad’s big anniversary gift—we’ve got couples activities and gift vouchers to suit every occasion and every budget. Before we get into our top ten, however, let’s go over a few general tips for shopping for couples and better halves. Follow our advice and pick perfect presents every time!
Gifts for Couples: General Tips
Choose something they’ll both enjoy
We know, it’s hard enough finding a gift that one person will love—let alone two! If you’re giving a couples present, though, it really ought to be something that’s genuinely for BOTH of them. Think about their shared interests and find something that appeals to them.
Choose something that brings them/you together
Can’t think of any shared interests? Well, presumably, one thing they/you both enjoy is spending time together (let’s hope). Pick a gift that encourages or provides space for that—and you’re on to a winner!
Choose something that breaks with routine
Whether it’s determined by demanding careers or demanding kids, routine can play a big part in lots of couples’ lives. A break is always welcome, so look for presents that provide escape from routine and an opportunity to try something new.
Choose something personal/original
Dependable clichés are easy and no doubt tempting, but if you really want your gift to make an impression, it needs to have personal relevance and originality. Sure, a bottle of wine or hamper will be much appreciated—but will they remember it in years to come?
It’s not about how much you spend
On that note, we reckon what you give is far more important than how much you spend on it. Give thought to choosing something unique and personal that brings the lucky couple together and offers a break from routine—and the result is priceless!
Couple activities make the best gifts
In case you hadn’t guessed, this is kind of what we’ve been getting at all along! Yes, we’re a little biased, but think about it for a moment—what gift satisfies the above better than a unique couples experience? As you’ll see, there’s something for everyone, whatever their interests.
Don’t worry if you’ve left it ‘til last minute
We email Activity Gifts vouchers to you instantly, so there’s no waiting around for postage. Simply print it off and tuck inside a card for the ultimate last-minute fix! The lucky recipient/s need never know!
Don’t stress out
It’s easy to feel under pressure if you’re shopping for a big occasion—but don’t stress too much! People pick up on that energy, and it puts pressure on the recipient/s too. Just relax, trust your instincts, and don’t be afraid to take ours and others’ advice.
Phew! We hope you’ve taken away something from that. Now, without further ado, let’s introduce our top ten gift experiences for couples. Of course, you’ll find plenty more in our Gifts for Couples section, but the following should at least give you some idea of the variety of activities on offer!

Given London’s gruesome history of plagues, executions, murderers, heads on pikes etc., is it any wonder that today it’s one of the world’s most haunted cities? Luckily, the guides on this haunted London pub tour know exactly where to look—where else, but in some of the city’s historic boozers! Amateur ghost hunters can join them for a pub crawl with a paranormal twist—and scare themselves silly in the process!

Otherwise, we Brits would never have known what charming creatures they are! Gentle and inquisitive—they make perfect woolly companions on a leisurely countryside stroll. With this Activity Gifts voucher, couples can lead their own halter-trained alpacas while enjoying glorious views of Romney Marsh. The only downside is they can’t take their new pets home!

The personal transportation device of the future… that never quite took off the way its inventors hoped. Nevertheless, the Segway has found itself a niche as part of quirky city tours and experience days. Martial arts might not seem all that romantic, but like we said earlier, a date needn’t be lovey-dovey to be good time. This Victorian self-defence class for two teaches the basic techniques of Bartitsu—a fighting system that incorporates elements of sword fighting, boxing and Jujitsu. It’s practiced by Sherlock Holmes in Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventure of the Empty House—and what’s good enough for the world’s greatest detective is good enough for you, right?
A unique gift experience for couples with a score to settle—only joking! Perfect for Sherlock fans and active types.

It feels like beer’s come a long way in recent years—we’ve now more choice than ever at the bar, with new flavours and innovations appearing all the time. For those who enjoy a lovely pint as much as we do, this beer tasting masterclass for two will introduce eight intriguing brews, as well as explaining some of the processes that go into making them. A refreshing activity gift for beer-loving couples.
Not convinced? Still need persuading that activities make the best gifts for couples? Well, here’s what one of our favourite couples had to say on the matter—
(Rich & Tess have been together for eight years. He works in a local college and she works in a high-end womenswear boutique)
Activity Gifts: So, what d’you really think of experience gifts vs. regular gifts, i.e. ‘things’?
Rich: I don’t think there’s much comparison, really. Experiences win out every time! I mean, obviously, we’re grateful whenever someone gives us anything, but if it’s for both of us, I reckon there aren’t many regular gifts—apart from a nice bottle of gin, maybe—that we’ll both enjoy. Experiences or activities are different though. We both love trying new things, so anything that’s a bit, you know, ‘out there’ is always great!
Tess: Yeah, I’d have to agree with Rich. His mum bought us a helicopter flight last Christmas, and it was just so lovely! We had to wait a while, as we wanted to fly in good weather, but that was almost part of it—the excitement and anticipation. It’s nice to have something to look forward to, and then when the day arrived, we both had so much fun! I think that’s why experience vouchers make the best presents—for us, at least.
