STAFF REVIEW: PROUD EMBANKMENT
Friday had arrived, and Willow and I were heading up to London for a unique evening out! We had been invited to Proud Embankment to dine and drink cocktails whilst watching their exclusive cabaret performances. We had already visited their Cocktail Club City venue, so when the opportunity arose to go to their bigger venue, we were delighted.
We caught the tube to Embankment, and as we exited the station, we caught a view of London’s skyscrapers. Although it was only November, the trees along the Thames were decorated in lights, and the London Eye glowed red. We walked up the road for only a few minutes before we were under the Waterloo Bridge. This was the location of the Proud Embankment venue, and a glamourous red carpet showed us to the entrance where two security guards were waiting. The doors opened at 7pm, and we were welcomed by a lady who escorted us to our table for the evening. As we walked in and up the stairs, we were impressed by how stylish and well laid out the stage and tables were. We had the privilege of a first-floor view, overlooking the square stage. However, with the stage being in the middle of the room, we would have had an incredible view wherever we were seated.
As we sat down, there was a buzz in the atmosphere as everyone entered and took their seats. A waitress approached our table to tell us we had a complimentary cocktail, which we could choose from a menu of five beverages. I went for a refreshing Pimm’s, and Willow chose the peach Bellini. We then ordered our food for the evening. The menu was very appetising, and Willow and I took a while to decide as we read through the options of beef sirloin, seabass, chicken Massaman curry, or the Miso aubergine stir-fry with rice. It wasn’t long before the show began, and the hostess (or ‘Den Mother’ as she called herself) welcomed us to the show! Her name was Chastity Belt, and she had a strong presence as she announced the performers throughout the night, and created comedy with the guests in the front row. Chastity also had a powerful voice, some would say resembling Adele.
We saw many world class performers throughout the evening, including a duo dance act formerly of Dancing with the Stars. The well-choregraphed routine was mesmerising as the female dancer was put into lots of incredible lifts. Our chicken, potato and cashew Massaman curry with jasmine rice was served, and it was as delicious as it sounds! All the burlesque dancers were unique and seductive in their own way. The aerial routines had an element of danger, creating a thrilling impact on the audience. In contrast, Abi Collins had a water routine during which she danced in and around a bath tub, spraying champagne.
From an extravagant feathered acrobat, to a fire breathing routine that will leave the room speechless, the world of cabaret is dark and exciting and one that is unforgettable! Perfect for a seductive date night, or an entertaining group night out. Thank you to Proud for inviting us into your sexy and glamourous world!
