Upon its release, the Audi R8 leapt to the top of the supercar pecking order, thanks to rave reviews from the likes of Autocar magazine and Channel 5’s Fifth Gear who named it Car of the Year 2007. It’s been described as ‘the best handling road car today’ by six-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacques Bernard Ickx, while others have praised the R8 for its driver-focused setup, real-world usability and understated looks. C’mon, it’s a Lamborghini! The Italian manufacturer has churned out bedroom wall-worthy cars/spaceships since the 60s

There’s a lot of debate over what the world’s first ever supercar was, but the Lamborghini Miura is a strong contender. Produced from 1966 – 1973, it was the world’s fastest production road car in its day – and its mid-engined two-seat layout soon became the supercar norm. In the decades that followed, Lamborghinis – more than any other marque – captured that sense of child-like excitement and awe only supercars can inspire. Thirty years after the last Miura rolled off the factory floor, they introduced the Gallardo. Named after a famous breed of fighting bull, it was a best-seller – and a worthy successor to Lambos of old.

Aston Martin is the marque of choice for 007. That’s Bond… James Bond

The Aston Martin DB9 drew gasps of admiration when it first appeared at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show. In the ninety years since the manufacturer was founded, it had produced plenty of iconic, often beautiful designs – but here was something truly stunning. The performance impressed too, along with the exquisitely crafted interior, best-of-British engineering, and a general sense of automotive theatre. Kids might be too young to remember the Top Gear ‘Cool Wall’ (unless they’re avid Dave viewers!), but the DB9 was allocated its very own super-cool fridge! – we suspect Bond would approve.

What young petrolhead doesn’t dream of driving a Ferrari? Make sure it’s a red one though

Jeremy Clarkson may not have been a fan, but many others loved the Ferrari 360 when it first appeared on the brink of the millennium – and, heck, Jezza’s been wrong before, eh? Modern, lightweight and sophisticated, the successor to the 355 heralded a new approach to car design at the marque’s Maranello factory. The 360 was the first Ferrari with an aluminium spaceframe chassis and one of the first to prove genuinely reliable in the real world. Today, it’s still an absolute pleasure to drive and well on the way to modern classic status.

Do you know a young fan of the iconic Prancing Horse? Treat them to a Ferrari 360 experience today!

    Replica ‘Bumblebee’ Chevrolet Camaro

Sure, we’ve already spoken about a few iconic movie vehicles – but when it comes to supercars in cinema, we know who tops our list! We think young fans of the Transformers franchise will agree they don’t come cooler than Bumblebee – the yellow Chevrolet Camaro slash ass-kicking Autobot hero.

During this unforgettable experience, fans as young as ten can get behind the wheel of a Camaro ZL1 – just like the one from the films! Admittedly, this one might not transform – but the distinctive styling and paintjob with leave drivers in no doubt as to who it is they’re driving!

Kids complete six laps of the track with an ARDS-qualified and DBS-checked instructor in the passenger seat, before hopping out for a photo with everyone’s favourite Decepticon-bashing robot!

The space-age Nissan looks straight out of a video game! It’s also a major car in the Fast & Furious franchise

Since the Nissan GT-R was unveiled, in 2007, the Japanese ‘Godzilla’ has rocked the supercar establishment and won fans the world over. Hailed as a supercar for the PlayStation generation, back then, the high-tech GT-R was considered the bargain of the century by many – it’s brutal pace making mincemeat of Ferraris and Porsches twice the price. Today, it’s still a thorn in the side of the big Europeans – praised in equal measure for its technical wizardry, giant-slaying performance and practicality. A firm favourite among petrolheads, young and old.

Surprise Scottish GT-R admirers with a junior driving day today!
