STAFF REVIEW: LONDON BRIDGE GHOST TOUR FOR TWO EXPERIENCE
What better way to scare up a storm and get into the Halloween spirit than by learning all about the gruesome history of London?
Stepping off the London Bridge tube station, Caly and I were hit with the usual joyful ambience of London. With the hustle and bustle, live music and street performers enlightening our senses, we were certain that this welcoming atmosphere was about to come to an end as we were navigating our way to the meeting point of this terrifying ghost tour! The meeting point was outside the Bunch of Grapes pub near the tube station, and it was extremely easy to find.
Meeting the expert tour guide was a smooth process as they approached us with their friendly demeanour, and introduced us to the rest of the group with whom we would be exploring the haunted pubs! After a brief overview of what lay ahead, we swiftly departed from the pub and commenced our journey around the centre of London. I really enjoyed the fact that the tour ran after the sun had set, and the shadows were emerging.
The first stop on the tour was one of the most memorable for me as we approached the ostentatious London Bridge and its fascinating design. Being educated about the transformation of this landmark and how it was previously used to display decapitated heads of people like Guy Fawkes blew my mind, because it’s something we could never imagine happening in this modern day and age!
With this being one of the first walking tours I’ve ever done, I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that we made our way around the city by foot because it gave each of us enough time to be able to take in the sights without feeling rushed. The next location that we visited was a church that was once home to a woman who lived a sheltered life due to her controlling father, consequently leading to a plethora of bloodshed.
Even after all these ghastly accounts, there was plenty more to come. We advanced to the next highlight of the tour, which resulted in us standing before an enormous replica pirate ship. Again, our guide told us about the horrific motives of the pirates who inhabited the ship, and how barbaric they really were! It could easily put anybody off deciding to hop on a cruise for holiday… who knows what’s out there in the ocean?
Each stopping point on the tour was consistently brought to life by our enthusiastic tour guide, who was excellent at articulating her passion and knowledge. This led to the tour feeling inclusive, as everybody was getting involved in the discussions of the ghost stories!
Moving on with our stops, we reached Shakespeare’s Globe, which doesn’t need any further clarification when it comes to history. This majestic building with its formidable architecture was alive with the sound of the public enjoying themselves inside, and made us realise the sheer amount of history that had occurred within those circular walls!
Before we knew it, we had made a return to our starting point on the opposite side of the road, and were informed of the history of the local church which has now been developed into a disco venue – I’m sure the ghosts are loving it! It was truly the most enjoyable experience getting to witness the shock on everybody’s faces.
The London Bridge Ghost Tour for 2 is the perfect experience gift for fans of anything supernatural, or an insightful way to get a look at some of London’s most treasured sights to see!
