What is There to Do in Nottingham

Unique Gifts and Things To Do in Nottingham

Situated on the northern border of the River Trent, Nottingham has a long history as a trading hub, market place, and manufacturer of fine lace. More recently however, this revitalised city has become a popular tourist destination with a reputation for its art, literature and theatre; lively club and music scene; and fantastic array of eateries. This combined with its unashamed promotion of hero in tights, Robin Hood, makes the city a truly compelling destination to visit.

Nottingham’s old city centre boasts an array of significant tourist hot spots within a compact and easily accessible radius, so for first time visitors seeking a whistle-stop tour, this is the ideal place to begin. The recently renovated Old Market Square is home to the largest pedestrianised public market space in the UK, and houses attractions including the Wheel of Nottingham, the splendid Neo-Baroque style Council House building, and the first official Speaker’s Corner outside of London, not to mention the stunning fountains and water features which have become a favourite hangout for locals and tourists alike. As you wander through the charming streets, be sure to pay a visit to the iconic Nottingham Castle for unrivalled views of the city, and an exploration into Nottingham’s illustrious past. Those feeling particularly adventurous might like to join a guided tour of the labyrinth of man-made caves, tunnels and cellars hidden beneath the castle walls. Other notable points of interest within the city centre include Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery, the City of Caves, and the National Justice Museum.

If you’re searching for some adventure, you’ve come to the right place! A short drive from the city centre is the world-famous Sherwood Forest. Although the Nature Reserve has significantly declined in size since the days of the legendary ‘Merry Men’, there are still plenty of opportunities to get back to nature and try your hand at an outdoor pursuit or two. With target sports such as archery and paintball, and adventure activity gifts including quad biking and off-road driving available in the area, you are sure to find the ideal adventure day out for any occasion. Ultimate thrill-seekers will be truly spoilt with the option to take part in a Tandem Skydive or even a White Water Rafting experience at the National Water Sports Centre…the opportunities are endless!

After a long day of exploring the city or getting your adrenaline fix for the month, we’re sure you’ll have worked up a rather large appetite, and Nottingham couldn’t be better equipped to meet your gastronomic needs! The city is teeming with eating and drinking opportunities – from Michelin-star fine dining to tapas and finger food, historic ale-houses to sleek student bars and clubs, Nottingham city centre caters to every need or desire.

So whether you are searching for things to do in your local area, are looking for a romantic weekend get-away, or are seeking an activity gift experience for a loved one, Nottingham is a truly wonderful city with an abundance of character to be explored.

Absolutely fantastic afternoon, all the way from the safety brief onwards! George was an excellent guide, judging our rafts ability perfectly. Highly recommended and can't wait to do it again!

The rafting was an awesome experience. It was hard work but well worth the effort and the instructor as well as being a real character really knew his stuff.

I am glad I did it but will never do it again. I started to feel nauseous a few minutes before the jump (not helped one iota by one of the instructors on board the flight having a bad case of foul smelling flatulence - very unpleasant). Once the canopy was deployed after the jump my nausea just got worse and stayed with me all the way down - I was terrified I would be sick (which is a huge phobia for me!!) Added to this the canopy strings had become twisted and my tandem buddy had to jerk around to sort - all was well. The jerk involved on deployment of the canopy caused my harness to tighten quite harshly which was massively uncomfortable. The net result of that was my legs then started to become numb and when it came to the landing I struggled to lift my legs and after landing had to sit for a few minutes as my legs felt so weak and wobbly. The nausea didn't leave me until very late in the evening (I actually jumped around midday) and I have very unattractive bruising in the groin/upper thighs because of the harness. Not the best of experiences :-( Redlands Airfield and the staff however were all lovely.
