STAFF REVIEW: GOURMET LUNCH BUS JOURNEY IN LONDON
The Gourmet Lunch Bus Journey in London was an experience that left me wanting to always live such a lavish lifestyle.
Caly and I hopped on the train from Brighton and made our way into London to experience a luxury lunch on a bus. After navigating the London Underground, we finally arrived at Victoria Embankment. This is the location that the experience departs from, and it was surrounded by London's famous landmarks, including Big Ben and the London Eye! Already, our stomachs were rumbling and so was the engine of the bus - it was time to hop on board!
As we boarded the bus, we were welcomed by a staff member who double checked our booking and informed us of the table we were sat at. Making our way past all the tables, we had a perfect spot at the back of the bus. All the seats were on the top deck of the bus, with the kitchen downstairs where our scrumptious courses were being prepared. It truly felt like we had just been transported to an elegant restaurant with the tables all laid out with care and precision.
As the bus swiftly departed, our glasses of water were filled up and we even were lucky enough to be given a glass of champagne each! An interesting aspect of this experience was that everybody on the bus was shown an interactive map and accompanying pen-style contraption. This technological tool was used to point at various landmarks on the map, and you could put the pen to your ear to hear some facts about the place you were wanting to learn more about.
To kick off our first course of four, we were presented with lobster-filled ravioli. Lobster is something that I’d never tried before so I was ready to get my tastebuds to do the judging. After finishing the entire portion, the decision was final… I loved it! Pasta is my usual go-to dinner plan, so it was enjoyable to mix this with something I’d never had before, and I’d recommend trying this out if you haven’t before.
After glancing outside the floor to ceiling glass windows , we soaked in the sights of London and were amazed at how much there was to see. The Tower Bridge and the London Eye were just a couple of the famous landmarks we made our way past. It was time for our second course now, which was pan fried cod and cauliflower purée infused with squid ink, served with a lemon and butter sauce. This was equally as delicious as the first course!
Each course was accompanied by a glass of wine to complement the taste of the food. I’m not usually a wine drinker, but as I sipped on each glass, I could easily differentiate the tastes and understand how they made a difference to the meal.
The third course headed our way was a beef fillet with spring vegetables. At this point, I was apprehensive that I wasn’t going to be able to stomach all four courses and I was already starting to feel full. However, when such gorgeous food is placed in front of you, it’s impossible to stay away!
Before we knew it, it was time for the fourth and final course to be served. This was called ‘The Strawberry’ and it was the highlight for me. I have a sweet tooth, so any dessert is always welcome in my stomach. It was a luxurious strawberry-flavoured ice cream encased in a hard shell, with whipped cream and fresh strawberries on the side.
The Gourmet Lunch Bus Journey in London is an experience perfect for those looking to eat in luxury, or somebody looking to try out something new in London!
